I'm still here!

It's been a busy week in Wil land.  Had my son's first parent/teacher conference with his new teacher.  Went very well, and he seems to be doing a lot better in this new school then he did in he last one.  Really makes me cranky with his old teacher, but that's in the past.  Work has been crazy, and likely will stay this way for the next month or two, it's our busy season.  That's about all for now, my brain has a bad case of the dumbs at the moment.  Watch for more insane ramblings about Life, the Universe and Everything coming soon!

The 'Living Wage'

All the talk of the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement has me thinking, along with many others in the States.  I will confess, I tend towards a Libertarian bias on things, mostly because I have seen the inefficiencies that Government is capable of up close and personal.  In all fairness, I have also seen it when it works well for people, and when it does it's a wonderful thing.  Government is no more always the problem then it is always the solution.  One of the most frequent demands from the Occupiers I have heard tossed about is a 'living wage' for everyone.  The question is, at least in my mind, is such a thing truly possible?

Butt Dialiing

Small confession, I'm new to the world of cell phones.  I don't feel the need to always be available for contacting, and it was just another expense I didn't want to deal with.  Then D went and got me a cheapo prepaid phone 'for emergencies.'

Apparently her butt decided it was an emergency and gave me a call just now.  I find myself wondering, what exactly is the socially acceptable length of time to try and get someone's attention?  Give up too easy and they might think you don't want to talk to them, but burn through too many of their minutes and they might get grumpy with you as well.  Not to mention how silly you sound as you try to make enough noise to get their attention as their phone sits in their back pocket, or purse, or whatever.

Sure, I'm sure there's some etiquette site out there that would give me an answer, but I'd rather talk to my Blog then listen to them.

Dr Who: Series 6

Watched the season ending 'The Wedding of River Song' recently, and it got me thinking about the rest of the season and my impressions of it.  Most of that will be behind the jump to help protect from spoilers, just 'cause I'm a nice guy like that. A little background first, I started with the good Doctor many years ago when I was growing up.  My Doctor was #4, which given his long run shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.  Personally, I wish he'd given it up a little sooner, maybe then he'd be more open to reprising the role now and again, but such is life.  When New Who started I was a little dubious, but they managed to win me over fairly quickly.  The many respectful nods to the old series while still keeping its own feel have made me a fan.

Raising a Geeklet

A while back through the magic of Netflix on the Xbox and some random button pushing my now four year old son discovered the wonder that was the Power Rangers.  For those of you who neither know or care, Netflix has every season except the newest available for instant viewing on your computer or tv.  Over 500 episodes of spandex and giant monsters.

Sorry, getting ready to head out to the Des Moines Zombie Walk.  Trying to decide if I want to do pictures or not, D, the better half, did a great job on the makeup!
